Suzani which is Persian for Needle and needlework traces its roots to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. It was introduced to India by traders via the silk route and in India, it's called “suzanikari” work. This artwork was initially taught from mother to daughter and was a coveted dowry gift during the daughter's wedding. Slowly this art faded as time passed by and local vendors making use of this opportunity began to sell local machine embroidery as Suzani work. This art is currently being revived and various revival techniques are combined with modern color palettes to create authentic pieces majorly on cotton and silk. Each suzani motif has a deeper meaning and it is used to bring joy, fertility, long life, prosperity, fruitfulness, good health, hospitality, etc., and to ward off all evil from the home.

Our Suzanikari Table runners are inspired by this ancient traditional art form and are sourced from the Suzani geo-tagged location in India. Traditional Nurata and Tashkent Suzani techniques have been used to create these and are rendered contemporary by the color palette used. Care has been taken to introduce colors that will go well with our traditional Canadian Living room color palettes and we are sure you all will like them.
